Elgar’s Cello Concerto – Zelman Symphony Orchestra

November 29 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm
$10 – $49

Join us for Zelman Symphony Orchestra’s final concert for 2025.

Arguably the most famous of all works for the cello, Elgar’s Cello Concerto was composed following the First World War. Richard Narroway joins Zelman Symphony for this deeply introspective and emotional work, its somber, melancholic tone reflecting the period’s sense of loss.

Before the concerto, we present Faust Overture, a work by another neglected female composer, Emilie Mayer. Inspired by Goethe’s play, this dramatic concert overture has a sinister opening which ultimately leads to a triumphant ending.

Our season concludes with Brahms’ Symphony no. 3. Emotionally charged, it weaves melancholy, introspection and lyrical beauty throughout its movements. The symphony’s rich orchestration reflects deep emotional complexity, while the third movement’s serene, wistful theme evokes a sense of quiet longing and inner reflection.
