Divisi: Human Instrument
What is the voice capable of?
The Human Instrument is a bold concert experience exploring the full expressive range of the human voice.
In this program, Divisi positions the voice not just as a vehicle for text and melody, but as an instrument in its own right: percussive, theatrical, intimate, virtuosic, and communal. Expect moments of breathtaking beauty alongside works that stretch the limits of what voices can do — whispers, rhythmic propulsion, extended techniques, and rich harmonic tapestries.
Featuring a newly-comissioned world premiere by Xiaole Zhan, music by leading Australian composers, and reimagined masterworks, this performance showcases Divisi’s commitment to new commissions, fearless programming, and the celebration of the voice in all its forms.
At once visceral and refined, ancient and new, The Human Instrument invites audiences to hear the human voice as they’ve never heard it before.
