Come to hear the splendid works of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana and Brahms’ Liebeslider Waltzes.
The Heidelberg Choral Society, under the direction of Peter Bandy, will be joined on stage by eminent soloists Margaret Orr (Soprano), David Rogers-Smith (Tenor) and Simon Meadows (Baritone).
“Carmina Burana was first staged in Germany in 1937”, says Peter Bandy, HCS’s Musical Director.
“It quickly gained popularity, and today is a classic in any choir’s repertoire. O Fortuna has to be the best known and probably the most dramatic opening chorus of any choral work.”
The collection of love songs that comprise Brahms’ Liebeslieder Waltzes have text taken from Daumer’s Polydora.
“From their composition in 1869, these gentle love poems and folk songs have been incredibly popular”, says Peter. “They are a delight to sing.”
