The Camberwell Chorale and Camerata Orchestra will present two romantic masterpieces, Schubert’s beautiful and devotional Mass No. 5 in A flat and Chopin’s lush and lyrical Piano Concerto No 1 in E Minor on Sunday 21st April 2024 at 2:30pm, at the Hawthorn Arts Centre.
Schubert began to write the Mass in A-flat Major in the summer of 1819, intending to dedicate the mass to Emperor Franz I. Three years later, one of his finest sacred choral works was completed. The gentle opening moment, the Kyrie, caresses the listener while the extensive fugue, cum sancto spiritu in the Gloria, exemplifies mastery of contrapuntal composition.
The beauty and depth of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No 1 which premiered in 1820, remains a timeless reminder of Chopin’s unique gift as a piano master and a composer. His music continues to inspire and hold a special place in the hearts of music lovers worldwide.
