Genesis Baroque is Melbourne/Naarm’s renowned period instrument chamber orchestra, and comprises some of Australia’s preeminent historically-informed performers, who together explore the vibrant repertoire of the 17th/18th centuries.

Works by Louis Couperin, Marin Marais, Joseph Bodin de Boismortier and more make up this program inspired by the ‘Fête Champêtre’ (‘country party’) genre of art. Popular in 18th-century France, these bucolic tableaux typically depict a pastoral scene in which carefree shepherds and shepherdesses dance gaily to the music of the smallest, and poshest, member of the bagpipe family, the ‘musette’.

* due to illness, Jennifer Kirsner is no longer able to perform in this concert.
