Melbourne Bach Choir & Orchestra conducted by Rick Prakhoff present a special Easter concert at Elisabeth Murdoch Hall. Distinguished soloists will be Lorina Gore, soprano; Belinda Paterson, mezzo-soprano; and Warwick Fyfe, baritone.
Following the success of OA’s recent production of King Roger by Polish composer Karol Szymanowski, his rarely performed Stabat Mater is paired with the much loved German Requiem by Johannes Brahms.
The six short movements of Szymanowski’s expressive masterpiece invoke Polish folk elements and echoes of early counterpoint, in a highly personal setting. Brahms’ choice of text for the Requiem was also individualistic, focussing on a more humanist rather than overtly Christian take on the concept of the end of life, in this deeply felt and dramatic work.
