Gabriel Fauré
Requiem, Op.48 (1889 version)
Paul Dyer’s pasticcio of works by French Baroque masters including Lully and Rameau
Like a lullaby, Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem offers a tender, tranquil vision of a beautiful beyond. Gentle in style, the music cradles its audience with a sense of solace. Listeners will be transported to L’église de la Madeleine, Paris where Faure’s great Requiem was first performed.
The early 1889 version of Faure’s Requiem is notable for its unusual instrumentation. A yearning voice from a single violin pierces the dark, rich sound of eight violas and four cellos. Upon this deep, mellow platform, our Brandenburg Choir and soloists will offer a sublime, soothing account of Fauré’s great work.
The Requiem will be complemented by Paul Dyer’s intimate pasticcio for small choir and period instruments, featuring works by French Baroque masters including Lully and Rameau
