After more than a decade, legendary conductor and harpsichordist William Christie returns to Melbourne with the phenomenal Les Arts Florissants, the great Baroque orchestra, and Christie’s selection of the world’s most talented young singers.
William Christie has become known as a remarkably prescient talent-spotter of the next generation of Baroque singers. Le Jardin des Voix (The Garden of Voices) is his biennial academy for the world’s brightest and best young singers, held over a two-week intensive course at Théâtre de Caen, followed by a concert tour.
Six laureates of the most recent program join Les Arts Florissants to present a semi-staged production of rare and well-loved Italian lyric treasures from the 17th and 18th centuries, including works by Cimarosa, Scarlatti, Handel and Vivaldi for a magical evening in an Italian garden.
