Five virtuosic concerts presented in the intimate Primrose Potter Salon with Artistic Director, Wilma Smith, to celebrate the 150th birthday of Arnold Schoenberg and the transformative experience of listening to his Transfigured Night as the inspiration for this special day-long musical experience.
We’re delighted to announce the program for the 2024 3MBS Marathon, presented at Melbourne Recital Centre on Saturday 24 February. Wilma Smith returns as Artistic Director, using the 150th birthday of Schoenberg and the transformative experience of listening to his deep, uplifting masterpiece, Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night) as the inspiration for this special five-concert musical experience.
Alongside Transfigured Night, program highlights include Ensemble Liaison’s performance of Brahms’s Clarinet Trio in A minor, Chopin’s iconic Funeral March Sonata performed by Paavali Jumppanen, Rebecca Clarke’s extraordinary, rarely heard Piano Trio performed by Trio Anima Mundi and Carl Nielson’s riveting Wind Quintet performed by the Australian Wind Quintet.
