3MBS English Music Festival: Concert 3 – Elyane Laussade and Luke Severn

3MBS returns in 2024 with four concerts celebrating chamber, solo and choral music from the British Isles over two days in August.

Audiences will be taken on a dynamic artistic journey that covers three centuries of English music from Purcell to Britten and Australian composers of English descent.

Experience the profound six choral motets that are the Songs of Farewell by Hubert Parry, Requiem by Herbert Howells, the ethereal Lark Ascending my Vaughan-Williams and a diverse range of chamber and solo works by Delius, Britten, Bridge and Elgar, among others.

Join us for this premier event to experience familiar and rarely-heard works by these English musical masters.

Dynamic pianist, Elyane Laussade, and cellist-conductor, Luke Severn, offer an intimate program in the third concert with Australian composer and pianist Joe Chindamo’s Variations on Dido’s Lament after Henry Purcell, Handel’s Keyboard Suite No.5 HWV 430 (which includes the infamous ‘Harmonious Blacksmith’ variations) and Sonata in D minor H.125 by Frank Bridge. The concert ends with Luke Severn’s own “…when the world was young”, a work the composer describes as “representing a personal reflection on changes experienced through life, both in love and loss and the shared experience of a changing environment.”
