The Melbourne Musicians directed by Frank U. Pam present another program celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the death of Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767). In his lifetime Telemann was more famous than his friends Bach and Handel.
There are three popular works on the program: Canary Cantata; Viola Concerto in G major; Trumpet Concerto in D major. Soloists are Tania de Jong AM soprano; Frank pam viola; Mark Fritzpatrick trumpet.
Telemann wrote about 2000 religious and secular cantatas. The Canary Cantata on the death of his pet canary is the most personal and the most humorous.
The Viola Concerto is the first viola concerto and is still popular today and the Trumpet Concerto is one of the finest baroque trumpet concertos.
The program also includes two Mannheim Symphonies by Johann Stamitz (1717-1757) who founded the famous Mannheim orchestra which greatly influenced Mozart and many others.
