This concert features Hoang Pham, the 2013 ABC Young Performer of the Year, playing two famous piano works in the one concert with the Zelman Memorial Symphony Orchestra.
The concert opens with Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture written in 1880 to thank the University of Breslau for giving him an honorary doctorate degree. It is a fun-filled series of student drinking songs including the triumphant finale ‘Gaudeamus igitur’.
Hoang will then climb the heights of Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini – the mere mention of Paganini ensures fireworks and a brilliant performance.
Then it is back to Brahms for his well-loved Piano Concerto No 1, a brilliant symphonic-like piano concerto which will have you on the edge of your seats
