Since its premiere performance in Vienna in 1824, Beethoven’s 9th has endured for two centuries, thrilling audiences with orchestration and libretto to espouse peace, freedom and the unity of humanity.
For an afternoon of Beethoven at his brilliant best, you’re invited to join with Heidelberg Choral Society, conductor Peter Bandy, soloists and orchestra to enjoy the 4th Movement “Ode to Joy” (Symphony 9), excerpts from The Ruins of Athens, and his lesser-known masterpiece Christ on the Mount of Olives.
Soloists will be Rebecca Rashleigh (soprano), Shakira Dugan (mezzo soprano), Robert Macfarlane (tenor), and Jeremy Kleeman (bass-baritone).
