A thrilling match for cello and piano repertoire.
Zoe Knighton and Amir Farid grace the stage with a musical partnership spanning 15 remarkable years. Known for her ‘thrilling tenor sound’ (Limelight), and sublime phrasing, Zoe is a cellist and founding member of Flinders Quartet, one of Australia’s finest chamber ensembles. Amir Farid is an award-winning New York-based Iranian-Australian solo pianist. Described as a ‘highly creative musician,’ he brings strong musical substance to all that he does, imbuing it with his own experience and understanding. A perfect pairing, witness their undeniable stage dynamic as they return from a recent striking debut at Carnegie Hall which had listeners ‘hanging on to every note’ (Legato Arts).
In this intimate Salon experience, Zoe and Amir will perform three sonatas that epitomise the lyrical possibilities of cello and piano, featuring two exciting discoveries set to become staples of the canon. From Brahms’ luscious and comforting Sonata No.1 in E-minor, Op.38, to the lightning-quick intelligence, warmth, and sensitivity of Margaret Sutherland, the evening concludes with the glowing sensuousness of a composer rapidly emerging as Croatia’s best-known musical export, Dora Pejačević.
