Infused throughout with joyous musical echoes of Russia’s religious and peasant past, Borodin’s popular Symphony No.2 is a bold and brilliant work; the perfect vehicle for MYO’s passionate young musicians.
Together with Sibelius’ Karelia Suite, it will create a concert overflowing with melody, pageantry, and power. Both works are much loved for capturing an exquisite balance of folk-like simplicity, dazzling orchestral sonority, and the sheer magic of the orchestral experience. It was said of Borodin and this work.
No musician has ever claimed immortality with so slender an offering. Yet if there be immortalities in music, his claim is incontestable.
