Allegri’s Miserere is perhaps the most famous piece of music written for the Sistine Chapel. This work is complemented by compositions from his predecessors in the Sistine Chapel choir: Jacques Arcadelt, Josquin des Prez and Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. This music was intended to give listeners an idea how it would feel to be transported to heaven. It still does!
