Established by Melbourne Symphony Orchestra percussionist Robert Cossom in 2004, the MSO Snare Drum Award is part of the Orchestra’s Artist Development Program and is designed to encourage the pursuit of excellence in snare drum performance in Australia and New Zealand.
Open to undergraduate tertiary students, this award provides an exclusive opportunity and platform for applicants to further develop audition and performance-based techniques in a professional environment in which the winner will receive on-going mentorship with the MSO for one year. In addition to the mentorship, the winner will receive a prizepack that includes a Mastro concert snare drum and case, a Moody Snare Drum, MIT Percussion cymbal stand and table base, bits and pieces mallet and accessory table.
This year’s Award will be held on Friday 8 August 2014. Auditions will be held during the day with four finalists selected to progress to the public final round evening concert in the Iwaki Auditorium, ABC Southbank Centre. An expert panel will decide the winner. Venue Iwaki Auditorium, ABC Southbank Centre
