James Crabb: Daring Pioneers

Argentinian tangos and Russian orthodox mysticism are unlikely bed-fellows, however in the hands of acclaimed classical accordionist James Crabb these worlds find a compelling meeting place. The winner of ANAM’s 2021 Concerto Competition (cello 2021), Charlotte Miles joins James to perform Sofia Gubaidulina’s Seven Words for cello, accordion and strings.

I’ve chosen three of their most significant orchestral works for this program where both composers push the expressive limits of their musical language and use of instrumentation to the absolute limits.
