Inspired by the Camino de Santiago, Joby Talbot’s Path of Miracles is a “mesmerising journey in sound” that mirrors the pilgrim’s progress, with each of the four choral movements taking listeners further along the way: from Roncesvalles through Burgos and León to finish at Santiago de Compostela.
Talbot draws on a rich tapestry of traditions and sources in this work—plainsong, minimalism, folk music, even film music to name but a few—to carry us along the journey. Gloriana gave the Melbourne premiere of this work in 2016 and is thrilled to be revisiting it in our 2019 season. To accompany Path of Miracles, we include excerpts from the Llibre Vermell de Montserrat, a fourteenth-century manuscript of pilgrim’s songs, still located at the monastery of Montserrat. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear one of the greatest choral works of our time.
