Melbourne Chamber Orchestra: Mozart and Beethoven Concertos

October 8, 2023 @ 2:30 pm - 4:15 pm

Event Series Event Series (See All)
$30 – $140

In 1787, a 17-year-old Beethoven made the journey from Bonn to Vienna—further than Melbourne to Sydney.

Did he meet the 30-year-old Mozart, in the few weeks they were in the same city?
Was there a metaphorical handing over of the baton of Classical music? Escape with us to this bright, elegant moment, as we perform Mozart’s final piano concerto and Beethoven’s first-written (but second-numbered) concerto, written just a few years apart.

Praised by The New York Times for his ‘power and extraordinary range of colours’, Finnish pianist Paavali Jumppanen is recognised as one of the leading living exponents of Mozart and Beethoven.

Now based in Melbourne as the Artistic Director of the Australian National Academy of Music, he joins us to perform these iconic concertos.

Sunday 8 October 2.30pm & Thursday 12 October 2023 7.30pm; MRC, Elisabeth Murdoch Hall

Duration: 1 hour 45 mins (incl. interval) Please note, running times are approximate and subject to change.
