The Australian Chamber Choir (ACC) opens its 2018 season with Mozart Requiem concert series across Castlemaine, Macedon and Melbourne during April.
Under the direction of Douglas Lawrence, the vocal beauty of the Australian Chamber Choir will be accompanied by instruments from Mozart’s time played by members of the Melbourne Baroque Orchestra.
Although one of the most popular works for choir, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s choral masterpiece Requiem is rarely heard accompanied by instruments of the composer’s time.
The work is scored for two basset horns, which were Mozart’s favourite instrument and will be played by guest musicians Craig Hill (MSO) and Nicole Van Bruggen (Australian Classical and Romantic Orchestra), along with strings, two bassoons, two trumpets, three trombones, timpani played by specialist musicians from the Melbourne Baroque Orchestra.
Adding to the delight of this program is a rarely performed work, Palestrina’s ethereal Stabat Mater, which will be sung alongside The Requiem in the one-hour concert.
